The impact of digital media on the print magazines industry

Read this BBC website feature on the print magazine industry and then this Guardian feature on the demise of NME magazine and print magazines in general.
1) Why are traditional print magazines struggling?
Magazine sales have generally dropped since the day the web inventor said: "Hey, why don't I invent the internet?," traditional print journals have been struggling because of the increase of digital media.
2) What genre of magazines is currently bucking the trend and increasing sales? Why is this?
News and current affairs magazines are becoming increasingly popular-but the publications of celebrity, gossip and fashion are still struggling.
3) In contrast, what magazine genres are struggling? Give examples of magazines that have declined or stopped printing altogether.
Entertainment and gossip magazines seem to be the most struggling genre of magazines. For instance, after 66 years in the print sector, NME has now stopped publishing their magazine.
4) Look at the Guardian article in detail. What statistics are provided to demonstrate the decline in the print magazines industry between 2010 and 2017? What about the percentage decline from 2000?
Sales of UK's top 100 actively purchased print titles – those readers purchase or subscribe to – fell 42 percent between 2010 and 2017 from 23.8 m to 13.9 m. According to the Audit Bureau of Circulations, the decline is 55 percent from 30.8 m since the beginning of the internet era in 2000.
5) What percentage of ad revenue is taken by Google and Facebook?
Google and Facebook account for 65% of the UK digital display ad market of $6.5 billion (£ 4.7 billion). They are also strangling efforts by newspaper and magazine publishers to create their digital ad revenue by taking about 90% of all new spending.
6) What strategies can magazine publishers use to remain in business in the digital age?
The primary way magazines can keep the digital age relevant would be to construct a brand beyond their core print publication. For instance, establishing activities related to their brand name, but offering something distinct from their print publication and is also somewhat distinctive
7) Why does the Hearst UK CEO James Wildman suggest that the magazine industry is not dead?
Print publications aimed at a niche audience are always likely to have a fanbase and loyal readership, as the interests expressed in these journals would not necessarily be shown elsewhere.
8) What examples from the Guardian article are provided to demonstrate how magazines are finding new revenue streams? What is the Men's Health branding used for?
New income streams are found by the concept of generating a wider product variety under the brand name of the publication.
9) What signs for optimism might there be for traditional magazine brands?
There may not be that much optimism due to the rise in digital media, but the significance of building magazines in our daily life is crucial because it is our entertainment source. It's also very informative and read magazines by a lot of individuals. Whether it's celebrity gossip, politics or other subjects, there's a broad variety to choose from which the reader's interest will be satisfied10) How does Men's Health fit into this picture? Why do you think Men's Health has remained successful in the digital age? Do you think Men's Health will continue to publish for many years to come? Why?
Men's health fits in with this image because I think that the demand for ' men's health in society ' is still at its peak, whether it's staying fit or attempting to lose weight, the introduction to more delicate subjects also intended that Men's Health remained effective in the digital era, and that's why I think that men's health will continue to be published because of the audience's demand.
