2) What view of capitalist ideology is presented in the Hunger Games films?
The view of capitalist ideology is that the poor is kept under control and anyone of steps out of line will be punished.              The poor is kept under control by the army of peacemakers. Usually the poor is led to crime and breaking the law as they have little money to feed their family

3) What do the Hunger Games films suggest about the power of the media to shape and influence ideological beliefs?

It is said that the world is under the dictatorship of President Snow who is a man who believes more in his own supreme leadership than the people of his country.

An ideology is ideas about how things should be, and how people should behave and live their lives, if an ideology is shared by the majority of people in a culture, as are these particular ideas, it is called the dominant ideology.

2) What are the four accepted ideological beliefs in western societies highlighted by the article?
• People should put their families first.
• People should work hard
for their money.

• Women should behave in feminine

ways, and look after their appearance.

3) What does Gramsci's theory of hegemony suggest about power and ideology in society?

He argues that the power of ideology derives primarily from ideas and structures which support, and thus serve the purpose of, an elite social group which is able to dominate through ideas, rather than militaristic strength or fear.


4) What does French theorist Louis Althusser suggest about ideology and consumerism?


He believes in two theories the Repressive State Control, also known as ‘Repressive
State Apparatuses’ (RSAs) through the major institutions of society – the Government, Army, Police, Courts, etc. – which are dominated by the ruling elite. Also, believes ‘Ideological State Apparatuses’ (ISAs), such as the Church, the media, educational institutions, the family unit etc.



5) Do YOU agree with the idea behind They Live - that we are unthinkingly controlled by the media which is run in the interests of the economic elite? These are the big questions of A Level Media!

I believe that we may be unthinkingly controlled by hr

In my opinion  the elite and the rich/economic elite have the most control over what is broadcast etc, so their views and perceptions will always be reflected in media texts. They take advantage of those with less cultural capital. However due to the progress of media and people, I believe people chose what they consume now and they are less controlled by the media.
