statement of intent

My crime TV drama is called 'The Unfortunates' whereby involving 2 main protagonists both being brothers, named Adil and Yousef, that have no choice but to join the world of danger in order to survive as they been faced with challenges being that their parents had unfortunately passed away. The tagline will be very simplistic which gets to the point which is 'never look down'. The meaning behind this is that if any misery occurs in ones life, you should always keep your heads up as there is more to selling drugs and risking your own life. Furthermore the narrative includes a major job which involves transported kilograms of drugs being cocaine across the city. Whilst doing so they must not be spotted by the police or coming against other gang members trying to steal the drugs. I have reinforced the stereotype of young teenagers involved in gangs and them dealing with drugs, making illegal money. On this mission to transport the drugs, Adil had been misguided by another gang member trying to set him up without Yousef knowing. The misguidance has led to Adil being abducted and being robbed but the drugs that the gang aim to steal was well hidden in the hands of Yousef. The two locations will be Southall as it gifts a distinct feature of being very gang affiliated in some areas, and also Acton as it is very quiet meaning which allows me to gives the audience a sense of safety showing that the brothers are unlikely to be caught in the action of transporting drugs.
The sound playing in my TV drama will consist of predominantly non-diagetic sound whereby playing the genre of grime and rap which fits the stereotype of young teenage boys. This also adds tension as the sound sets the mood of the action and the it will mostly consist of fast pace music which allows the audience 'to be on their feet' as it gives a sense of excitement into what is about to occur. This may happen when the plot is about to change whereby Adil gets identified by a gang member trying to steal the drugs.
The trailer conventions being the title whereby is will be in block characters and not to fancy to portray solemnity. Furthermore it will also be advertised through social media as it reaches a younger demographic due to this generation being digitalised. I will use #HeadsUp to start a movement stating that if any unfortunate occurance happens in ones life, they must not result themselves in harming their future and their lives due to possible anger or fear.
Camera work will consist with a lot of close up shots to show the fear and paranoia the main protagonists are in, furthermore long shots to show the scenery in order for the audience to understand the mood of the narrative. Other camera shots consists of tracking shots to show the characters running for their lives.

My target audience is aged from 13-34 aimed at mainly teenagers that are easily influenced in doing illegal activities in order to ''succeed''. This will be played around 6-7 on Channel 4 and if the audiences miss the viewing than they have a chance to play it on on-demand. And it is also suitable for broadcast as drugs will have minimise screening and will not show any violent scenes making it suitable for pre-watershed.
My TV drama will reinforce stereotypes as my two protagonists are from an ethnic minority involved in a dangerous life also being a teenage male which also resembles how teenagers are viewed in the media.
Medhursts theory being Stereotyping is Shorthand for indentification is evident in my TV drama as the audience will understand the narrative easily through the stereotypical view of young teenagers involved in gangs and gives a clear identification of the narrative. The Equlibrium in my TV drama will be the my two protagonists living a normal life which then unfortunately comes the Disequilibrium whereby the parents of the two protagonists had passed away, leading Adil and Yousef to hit the dangerous roads in order to make money and survive furthermore leaving the drugs behind. The New Equilibrium will be that they both seek harmony by finding a friend who ahd adopted them and now have a shelter above their heads and food on their plates. In addition, Blumler and Katz Uses and Gratifications Theory involves personal relationship whereby the teenagers in this era can understand whats happening and reflect on the actions to do with gang affiliations etc.
