Italy quarantines 16 million people to stem coronavirus outbreak - what does it mean for Italians or for Brits travelling to Italy

  • Around 16 million Italians have been quarantined while the government is enforcing strict measures to try to avoid coronavirus spread.
  • The world has seen the largest daily rise in Covid-19 cases since the outbreak started on 21 February in Northern Italy, with the number of infections rising by more than 1,200 to 5,883 in the last 24 hours.
  • In reaction, the government decreed the entire region of Lombardy, including the financial capital Milan, and closed off 14 provinces in four distinct regions.
